What is Rich Results?

Definition

Rich results (formerly rich snippets) are enhanced search result displays generated from structured data markup. They go beyond the standard title, URL, and description to include star ratings, prices, availability, FAQ dropdowns, how-to steps, breadcrumbs, and more. Rich results increase click-through rates by making results more visually compelling.

Why Rich Results matters for Shopify stores

For Shopify stores, product rich results (showing price, availability, and ratings in search results) are the highest-value implementation. Stores with star ratings visible in organic results achieve significantly higher CTR than bare-link competitors ranking at the same position.

Shopify example

Two Shopify stores rank 4th for 'bamboo cutting board'. Store A shows plain blue link. Store B shows product name, £29.99 price, 'In stock', and 4.7★ from 284 reviews, all from Product JSON-LD schema. Store B gets far more clicks despite identical ranking.

How Sauron handles Rich Results

Sauron generates Product, CollectionPage, BreadcrumbList, Article and LocalBusiness JSON-LD schema — plus FAQPage on the blog posts it writes — all eligible for rich results in Google Search. Check the output yourself with Google's Rich Results Test.

  • Including data in schema that contradicts what's visible on the page
  • Thinking rich results are guaranteed: Google decides whether to show them
  • Not monitoring GSC's Enhancement reports to catch schema errors early
